Hiroyuki Sekine, born in 1957 in Tokyo, is a visionary director known for his innovative approach to film and his exploration of urban decay. A graduate of Tama Art Academy, Sekine began his career with the short film "Etude" in 1978, which garnered attention at the Pia Film Festival in 1982. His unique style emerged in the late 1980s as he began transforming abandoned buildings into cinematic experiences, leading to notable works like "Tokyo Sanpo vol. 1" (1987) and "The Ruins of Igi" (1989). One of his most celebrated films, "A New Feeling of Something Happening" (2002), encapsulates his experimental ethos and has become a sought-after title among collectors. Its blend of documentary and narrative techniques offers a captivating glimpse into urban life, making it a standout in the realm of independent cinema.
