BIOGRAPHY

Kirio Urayama was a notable Japanese director whose work continues to resonate with collectors of physical media. Making his mark in the world of film, Urayama debuted with "Foundry Town" in 1962, which poignantly explored the lives of Zainichi Korean residents in Japan, earning him the Directors Guild of Japan New Directors Award. His 1963 film "Bad Girl" (Each Day I Cry) further solidified his reputation, winning a Golden Prize at the 3rd Moscow International Film Festival. Urayama's 1983 film "Dark Room" remains a standout in his limited but impactful filmography. This psychological drama is sought after by collectors for its unique exploration of themes and its place in the evolution of Japanese cinema. Despite directing only nine films before his untimely passing in 1985, Urayama's work is celebrated for its artistic depth and cultural relevance, making his releases essential additions for enthusiasts of film history and home video collections.
