BIOGRAPHY

Masato Hara, a prominent figure in Japanese cinema, first made waves with his 16mm short, *A Sad Yet Funny Ballad*, during his secondary school years. His career took a significant turn in 1970 when he penned the script for Oshima Nagasi's acclaimed *The Man Who Left His Will on Film*. However, it was his 1973 masterpiece, *The First Emperor*, that solidified his status in film history, earning recognition as one of the most important films in Japan according to Kinema Jumpo. This film is particularly sought after by collectors due to its artistic innovation and historical significance. In 2015, Hara returned to the forefront with *SOAR: I Wish You Were Here*, a film that showcases his ability to blend various media, including animation and live performance. This unique approach to storytelling has attracted a dedicated following among collectors who appreciate the artistic depth and technical skill found in his works. Hara’s films are not only collector's items for their rarity but also for their rich contributions to the evolution of Japanese cinema.
