His directorial debut, *It Was Not Useless* (1957), showcased his talent at the 7th Berlin International Film Festival, making it a sought-after title among collectors who appreciate its historical significance. Tanhofer's most celebrated work, *H-8...* (1958), earned him the prestigious Golden Arena at the Pula Film Festival, solidifying his reputation and making this film a standout in any collector's library. Throughout his career, Tanhofer explored diverse themes, as seen in *Osma vrata* (1959) and the groundbreaking *Sreća dolazi u 9* (1961), the first Yugoslav feature to incorporate fantastical elements.
