BIOGRAPHY

Shu Kei, born Kenneth Ip in 1956, is a pivotal figure in Hong Kong cinema whose career spans writing, directing, and distribution. He burst onto the scene with his directorial debut, *Sealed with a Kiss* (1981), a tender exploration of love between two mentally handicapped youths, marking a refreshing break from the prevalent genres of that era. His later works, like *Soul* (1986), which garnered critical acclaim for its cinematography, and *Hu-Du-Men* (1996), a film celebrated for its strong performances, further solidified his reputation in the industry. Collectors prize Shu Kei's films not only for their artistic merit but also for their historical significance within Hong Kong cinema. His documentary *Sunless Days* (1990), awarded at the Berlin International Film Festival, and his contributions to the distribution of art films through his Creative Workshop enhance his legacy. Notably, his 1997 film *Love: Amoeba Style* offers a unique narrative style that resonates with collectors seeking diverse cinematic experiences. Shu's influence as both a filmmaker and a cultural curator makes his works essential additions to any serious film collection.
