1000 Lakes Rally 1986 captures the raw intensity of rally racing in a way that few documentaries manage to do. Set against the stunning Finnish landscape, you really feel the grit and determination of the drivers. Alen and Salonen going head-to-head is a thrill, but then there's Kankkunen, a local talent, who adds a unique vibe to the competition. The pacing is spot on, with plenty of action interspersed with quieter moments that let you soak in the atmosphere of the event. The camera work does a decent job of making you feel like you're right there in the car with them, and the sound of those engines roaring is something else. It's all about the sport, the camaraderie, and the struggle of man versus nature, really engaging stuff.
