So, '40.mov' is a really interesting piece. It’s only 40 seconds long, which is kind of a neat gimmick, but it’s what’s behind that that gets me. The whole thing is made using the historic Moviola editing machine, which is pretty cool. The animation is done without a camera—just photocopies and tape on 16mm film leader. The textures and layers really give it a handmade feel, almost like a collage. You can see the hands-on effort, which kind of resonates with the whole theme of film as a tactile medium. The pacing is almost hypnotic, despite being short. It’s a unique exploration of the animation process that feels both nostalgic and experimental.
Experiment in animation techniques.Cameraless methods give it a unique texture.Nostalgic homage to editing history.
