A Gentle Spirit, though not widely known, carries a weight that’s hard to shake off. The animation style is quite striking, almost haunting, which really aligns with the somber themes of Dostoyevski's story. It’s all about this man’s reflection on the fleeting moments of his life with his wife, and that sense of loss is palpable throughout. Dumala’s technique gives it this gritty, claustrophobic feel—like you’re trapped in that dark space with them. The pacing is deliberate, letting the viewer sit with the heaviness of the narrative. It’s not your typical animated fare and definitely stands out for its stark portrayal of despair and longing. Quite an impressive, albeit grim, adaptation of the source material.
