A Good Mother, directed by Claudia Garde, dives into a hauntingly intimate narrative. You’ve got Mona, this complex single mother, taking her kids to the Baltic Sea, and it’s just brimming with tension. The atmosphere feels almost suffocating at times, as you watch her struggles with her mental state. The kids, Tom and Marlen, seem wise beyond their years, which creates this odd dynamic that really grips you. The pacing is a bit slow, but it allows for moments of reflection and really drives home the themes of familial bonds and the weight of emotional baggage. Garde’s direction shines through in those quiet moments where the landscape feels as much a character as the people. It’s not your usual TV Movie fare, that's for sure.
