A Sound of Thunder is an interesting, if flawed, take on the time travel genre. The premise is cool—how a single action in the past can ripple through time, resulting in some pretty dire changes. The atmosphere leans heavily on a mix of adventure and science fiction, with some decent practical effects that stand out, even if the CGI doesn't quite hold up. Peter Hyams tries to capture that sense of wonder and danger of the prehistoric world, but the pacing can feel off at times. Edward Burns and Ben Kingsley deliver solid performances, though their characters don't always have the depth you'd hope for. It’s definitely one of those films that elicits conversation about what works and what doesn’t in adaptation.
Released on DVD in 2005 and 2006 in multiple editions.Filmed primarily in Prague, which adds a unique backdrop.Features a mix of practical effects and early CGI.Adapted from Ray Bradbury's short story, but diverges in execution.
