Aaltra is one of those films that really pushes the boundaries of dark humor. The rivalry between the two neighbors, played with a raw intensity, takes a bizarre turn when both end up paralyzed due to that tractor mishap. It's fascinating how it shifts from petty squabbles to a shared fate which brings out an unexpected camaraderie. The pacing feels almost lethargic at times, mirroring the characters' new reality, yet there's a sharpness to the dialogue that keeps it engaging. The practical effects are minimal but effective, underscoring their predicament without overshadowing the narrative. Delépine’s direction, I think, really captures that absurdity of life and how anger can transform into something quite different when faced with shared adversity.
