Absolute Power is an interesting blend of action and political drama, with Eastwood at the helm. The pacing feels deliberate, allowing the tension to build as the master thief, played by Eastwood himself, becomes tangled in a web of high-stakes conspiracy. The atmosphere is gritty, reflecting a world where power operates in shadows. Gene Hackman delivers a solid performance as the morally ambiguous president, while Ed Harris brings a nuanced edge to his role as the detective. The practical effects hold up well, and the film’s cinematography captures both the elegance and grime of its settings. It’s a solid exploration of themes like corruption and the struggle for truth, without feeling preachy or overstuffed with dialogue.
