So, 'Abstraction' is an interesting little piece from 2013, directed by someone we don't really know. It’s got this gritty feel typical of low-budget crime dramas, with Tommy and Gary, two guys just trying to scrape by through grand thefts. The pacing is a bit uneven, but it gives you a sense of their chaotic life. The atmosphere is quite tense, especially as their heists start unraveling. You can see the struggle with morality bubbling underneath, especially as Tommy's romance with Scarlet unfolds. The performances, particularly from the leads, have this rawness that makes their desperation palpable. Not groundbreaking but definitely distinctive in its execution and grounded in reality with its practical effects.
Low-budget charm adds to its rawness.Explores themes of friendship and morality.Unconventional pacing enhances tension.
