Across the Line is one of those charming mockumentaries that captures the chaos of teaching in an Irish Gaelscoil. You have Emma, a student teacher, who’s thrown into the deep end without a clue of the language. The pacing feels very much like a real classroom—some moments drag on in that classic cringe comedy style, while others zip by as the teachers scramble to help her learn. The performances have this lovely authenticity, especially from the two teachers who are more than a bit eccentric themselves. The atmosphere is buoyant, almost frenetic, which fits the theme of bridging gaps—culturally and linguistically. It’s distinct for its blend of genuine cultural elements with a light-hearted outlook on the struggles of education.
