After Pilkington is a curious blend of comedy and drama that captures the absurdities of academic life and personal entanglements. You’ve got this Oxford professor, James Westgate, who’s living a pretty structured life, then bam, he meets Penny, his new colleague’s wife, and the whole thing gets turned upside down. It flits between light-hearted moments and deeper themes of desire and moral conflict, which keeps the pacing interesting. The performances feel genuine, especially with the chemistry between the leads. The low-key atmosphere supports the narrative well, allowing for some nice character explorations without too much over-the-top drama. It’s not flashy, but that’s what makes it distinctively engaging in its own right.
Interesting character dynamics that evolve throughout.Subtle humor woven into the storyline.A good example of late 80s TV movies.
