Air Force One is a solid action thriller that really rides the tension of its premise. Wolfgang Petersen does a nice job balancing the political stakes with the personal, especially as Harrison Ford's President grapples with the terrorists on his own plane. The pacing keeps you engaged, and the practical effects have a certain charm that CGI often lacks. The cast is strong, too, with Gary Oldman bringing a chilling intensity to the role of the hijacker. It's one of those films that plays with the idea of power, protection, and the lengths one must go to when family is at stake. Plus, the aircraft itself becomes almost a character in its own right, which adds to the atmosphere.
