So, you’ve got Airplane II: The Sequel, right? Directed by Ken Finkleman, it’s this quirky follow-up that retains the zany spirit of the original while spinning a space-age twist. The humor is often slapstick, with a good dose of absurdity. Ted Striker, played by Robert Hays, is back, grappling with both a malfunctioning shuttle and his rocky relationship with Elaine, who is ever the strong-willed character. The pacing is fast, like the first, but there’s this fun sense of ridiculous urgency as the shuttle careens towards the sun. The practical effects, especially for the early '80s, have a certain charm. It’s distinctly different from what you'd expect from typical sequels — they really leaned into the absurdity here, and that's worth noting.
A fun exploration of comedy in a space setting.Interesting follow-up to its predecessor.Strong performances that keep the absurdity alive.
