Akari is an interesting little piece, clocking in at just about six minutes, but it packs a punch. Directed by Takeshi Yagi, it really feels like a throwback to classic tokusatsu vibes, mixed with some modern sensibilities. The atmosphere is thick with suspense, and the practical effects, though limited by its short runtime, have that charming roughness that reminds you of the genre's roots. The pacing is tight, keeping the action flowing without losing the horror elements. The performances are solid, especially given the constraints. It leaves you curious about the characters and the world they inhabit. Not your typical kaiju fare, there's something distinctive here that captures the spirit of the genre.
