Albatros (2021) dives deep into the murky waters of grief and self-discovery. Ismael, fresh off the loss of his father, finds himself in a group therapy session that feels almost mundane at first. But the atmosphere shifts when he encounters a fellow participant whose perspective begins to peel back layers of Ismael’s sorrow. It’s a slow burn, really—pacing feels deliberate, almost meditative, allowing the weight of grief to settle in. The performances are raw, unvarnished, yet grounded. There’s something about the way they interact that feels genuine, making the emotional beats hit hard. It’s not flashy, which I think suits the theme of introspection. Overall, it leaves you reflecting long after the credits roll, which is something I appreciate in a film.
