Oliver Stone's 'Alexander' is an ambitious take on the life of the Macedonian king. The film’s scope is massive, with some striking visuals and elaborate set pieces that really try to capture the enormity of Alexander's conquests. Colin Farrell’s performance is interesting; he walks that fine line between a heroic leader and someone deeply flawed. The pacing feels a bit uneven at times, especially with the lengthy battle scenes contrasted against quieter moments of introspection. It’s got a distinct look, thanks to the production design, but you can sense the mixed reception it got, which is a shame because there’s so much to chew on regarding ambition and legacy. Not your typical historical epic, for sure.
