Ali Aqa is a fascinating dive into the life of this prickly old man. He’s got this intense obsession with his pigeons, and you can feel the weight of his personality throughout the film. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, which allows you to really settle into his world – the rooftop coop becomes a peculiar character in itself. The atmosphere is thick with tension; there’s an underlying sense of danger in his erratic behavior, and it’s intriguing how that reflects his isolation. The documentary doesn't shy away from his flaws, which I appreciate. It’s one of those films where you’re not sure whether to laugh or cringe, but it’s that complexity that makes it distinct, you know?
