Alien Surveillance (2018) is an interesting take on the found footage style, set within the confines of an office building during a weekend work party. The tension builds slowly, relying on the eeriness of surveillance footage to capture the terror of an alien invasion. There’s something disconcerting about the juxtaposition of mundane office life with the chaos of an extraterrestrial threat, and it works well here. The practical effects, while not groundbreaking, do manage to create a certain unsettling atmosphere which adds to the overall dread. Performances are decent; they lean toward the anxious and frantic, which feels fitting given the situation. It’s a unique blend of horror and sci-fi, with that voyeuristic element really giving it a distinct edge.
