Almost Human is a fascinating little film that brings together comedy, drama, and a hint of romance in a rather peculiar way. The premise revolves around John Livingston, a wealthy guy who's quite the mama's-boy, and his dog, Paul. There's something about the dynamic between the canine characters that's more than just cute; Paul’s seduction of Maggie Mutt in the barn is both audacious and a bit tragic. The pacing feels a bit uneven at times, but that only adds to its charm. The performances, especially from the dogs, are surprisingly effective, giving the film a unique voice. It’s not every day you see a silent film tackle themes of love and betrayal through the eyes of dogs, making it stand out, if only for that audacity.
