Almost True: The Noble Art of Forgery is an intriguing dive into the life of Elmyr de Hory, a notorious art forger whose work blurs the lines between authenticity and deception. The film has this almost hypnotic pace, allowing you to absorb de Hory's philosophies on art and forgery. It’s fascinating to see how his existence challenges our perceptions of value and originality in art. The tone has this strange mixture of reverence and skepticism, and it really captures the essence of an artist who lived in the shadows. It’s a Norwegian production, directed by Knut W. Jorfald, and while it’s spoken in English, the atmosphere feels very European in its contemplative style. A nice complement to Welles' F for Fake, if you’re into that sort of thing.
