An American Crime is a tough watch, for sure. Directed by Tommy O'Haver, it dives deep into the chilling true story of Gertrude Baniszewski. The atmosphere is grim, almost suffocating at times, and you can feel the weight of the 60s suburban facade just crumbling. The performances, especially Ellen Page as Sylvia Likens, are raw and haunting. O'Haver doesn’t shy away from the horror of the situation, but it’s the emotional turmoil that lingers long after. The pacing is deliberate, drawing you into a sense of dread rather than flashy horror. It’s not your typical crime drama; it’s something darker, more unsettling, tense you with its stark realism.
