So, this one’s a revised take on Tobias Picker’s opera that draws from Dreiser’s novel. The atmosphere is really engaging—there’s a sense of dread and inevitability that hangs over the whole production. The pacing shifts, sometimes feeling languid, reflecting the internal struggles of the characters. You get a real sense of the themes of ambition and moral decay. The music is pretty compelling, creating layers that almost make the audience feel the characters’ turmoil. Performances are solid, though I wish I could name the director—there’s a distinct vision here that’s hard to pin down. The practical effects, while not groundbreaking, serve to enhance the raw emotion rather than distract from it. Definitely a unique interpretation, worth a look for sure.
