An Old-Fashioned Comedy is really a deep dive into human connection, set in the somewhat sterile environment of a sanatorium. The tension is palpable from the get-go, as Lydia, played with a certain fiery spirit, disrupts the strict routines of the place. And Rodion, the chief physician, is all about order—at least at first. The pacing is interesting, with moments of light drama that contrast nicely against the romantic undertones. You feel the weight of the characters' pasts. It's more about emotional landscapes than outright laughs, really. The performances have a rawness to them, almost like they're peeling back layers of themselves. It's a solid adaptation of Arbuzov's play, capturing that bittersweet essence of relationships and the human condition.
