So, 'Angel Face' is really something. Otto Preminger’s direction gives it this chilling atmosphere, and you can feel the tension from the start. Frank Jessup, played by a young Robert Mitchum, gets wrapped up in the dangerously alluring Diane Tremayne, portrayed with a sultry intensity by Jean Simmons. Their dynamic is both captivating and unsettling, and you can’t shake the feeling of doom that hangs over the whole thing. The pacing is deliberate, allowing for those quiet moments where the tension builds. There’s this noir aesthetic, lots of shadows and clever angles, and the practical effects are well done for the time. Overall, it’s a haunting exploration of manipulation and guilt that lingers long after the credits roll.
