Angel Town is this interesting blend of action and drama, capturing the gritty vibe of early '90s urban life. The story kicks off with a graduate student who also happens to be a martial-arts expert. He moves into this house, owned by a single mother, and the conflict soon unfolds as a local street gang sets its sights on her son. The film really plays up the tension, with some solid practical effects that enhance the fight scenes. The performances are, well, a bit uneven but there's a raw energy that pulls you in. The pacing is kind of standard for its time, but there's a certain charm in the way it portrays the struggle against gang influence, making it a standout in the genre.
Urban gang dynamics explored.Practical effects over CGI.Martial arts influence evident.
