Angel's Egg is a fascinating piece of animation that really delves into themes of existence and memory. The visuals are haunting, creating this almost dream-like cityscape that feels both unsettling and beautiful. Mamoru Oshii’s direction gives each frame a painterly quality, and the pacing is deliberately slow, letting the atmosphere sink in. The characters, particularly the girl and the boy, are almost archetypal, embodying innocence and searching. There’s very little dialogue, which adds to that mystery and allows the score to really take over. It feels like a meditation on faith and belief wrapped in a surreal narrative. Not for everyone, but if you appreciate the more experimental side of animation, it’s a standout.
