Anima State is this strange piece, kind of a raw and gritty take on desperation and the human condition. You’ve got this guy in a bandaged mask, just going off on a shooting spree, which is intense to say the least. But what's eerie is how the society around him barely reacts; it feels very relevant in today’s context of media numbness. The pacing is a bit erratic, but it builds this unsettling atmosphere that draws you in. The performances, though not widely recognized, have this haunting quality that sticks with you. And there’s this interesting layer with the filmmaker character, blurring lines between reality and fiction. It’s not your typical thriller, that’s for sure.
