Animal Farm (1999) is an interesting take on George Orwell's classic. The film, directed by John Stephenson, blends comedy with drama in a way that feels quite fitting for the material. You get this palpable tension as the animals rise up, but then it dips into darker themes of power and corruption. The practical effects have a certain charm, giving the animals a tangible quality that contrasts with the grim reality of their revolution. Performances are solid, capturing the betrayal and disillusionment that unfolds. The pacing has its quirks, sometimes feeling rushed, but it does a decent job of conveying the moral decay that follows the initial enthusiasm for change. It's a thought-provoking watch, and it's hard not to appreciate its ambition.
