At Dawn They Sleep, while not much talked about, has a gritty atmosphere that pulls you right into the dark underbelly of crime. The characters, Stephen and Ian, are these violent drug lords whose world collides with something far more sinister. There’s a distinct tension as they bring two seemingly innocent girls home – but the next morning, everything shifts. The pacing feels deliberate, letting dread build up before the chaos erupts. The practical effects have a rawness that’s often missing in today’s polished horror films. Performances are a bit rough around the edges, but they lend an authenticity to the characters’ desperation. This film doesn’t shy away from the brutal, and it definitely leaves you with a lingering sense of unease. A real underground gem, I’d say.
