Atlantis: The Lost Empire has a unique vibe for a Disney film, going for a more mature tone with its steampunk aesthetic. The animation is striking, blending hand-drawn and digital techniques that give it a distinct look, especially in the underwater scenes. The pacing is brisk, fitting for an adventure flick, but it also allows for some nice character moments. Michael J. Fox as Milo brings a relatable geekiness that's hard not to root for. There’s this underlying theme of discovery and the clash of cultures that feels a bit darker than typical family fare. Plus, the art direction is really something - feels like they were trying to push boundaries, and it shows. Definitely a unique entry in the Disney catalog.
