Attenberg is quite a unique piece of cinema. Set in a stark, almost industrial backdrop, it gives off this eerie yet oddly intimate vibe. You really feel the isolation of Marina, who’s got this fascinatingly awkward relationship with her dad and the world around her. The pacing is deliberate, allowing the viewer to sit in those uncomfortable moments. The foosball duel becomes this unexpected turning point, adding a lightness to the otherwise heavy themes of connection and human interaction. The performances, especially from the lead, are raw and unfiltered, which really brings out the film's distinctive character. It's one of those films that lingers with you long after the credits roll.
