Werner Herzog’s 'Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans' is a wild ride through post-Katrina New Orleans. Nicholas Cage’s performance as McDonagh is intense and chaotic, capturing a man spiraling into addiction while trying to maintain his badge. The film has this gritty, almost surreal atmosphere, typical of Herzog, mixed with dark humor and a sense of madness. The pacing feels loose, almost dreamlike at times, which might not work for everyone, but it really pulls you into McDonagh's warped perspective. The visuals are striking, the streets of New Orleans almost feel like a character in their own right, and the practical effects used create a raw, unfiltered view of the chaos surrounding him.
