Peter Jackson's 'Bad Taste' is this wild mash-up of action, comedy, and horror, shot on a shoestring budget. It’s astonishing how much he packed into it, especially with those practical effects—like the infamous exploding heads. The plot revolves around a fast food chain wanting to market human flesh. Yeah, it’s as absurd as it sounds. The pacing is erratic, but it fits the chaotic tone of the film. You get a real sense of DIY filmmaking here, with Jackson and his crew pulling off some outrageous stunts. The performances are delightfully over-the-top, particularly the alien characters. It’s a bizarre snapshot of '80s genre cinema, and definitely not your typical horror flick.
Filmed over four years, primarily in Jackson's hometown.Features extensive use of practical effects and makeup.Distributed by Jackson's own company, WingNut Films.Originally shot on 16mm, later remastered in 2K.
