Baghead is one of those films that plays with the idea of low-budget horror and what it means to create within that space. The Duplass brothers mix comedy and genuine tension pretty well here. It’s shot in a raw, almost documentary style which gives it this eerie realism. The characters are just actors, but their chemistry feels surprisingly real, and it adds to the discomfort. The pacing is a bit slow at times, but that just builds the tension as they grapple with their own fears and insecurities. The practical effects are minimal but effective, letting the tension simmer rather than splatter. It’s interesting how it subverts the genre while still being a nod to those classic horror tropes.
