Barbie Fairytopia: Mermaidia is an interesting continuation of the Fairytopia saga. Directed by William Lau, it features a blend of bright colors and enchanting underwater landscapes that really set a whimsical tone. Elina's journey feels a bit rushed at times, but the charming animation makes up for it. The voice performances, especially from the mermaid Nori, bring a freshness that keeps things engaging. The themes of friendship and bravery are woven through the story, though they’re pretty familiar territory. The practical effects in the water scenes are particularly noteworthy—certain moments are quite striking for a direct-to-video release. Overall, it’s a decent watch if you’re into this niche of animated adventure, even if it doesn’t really break new ground.
