Batang-X is a curious mix of action and fantasy, set in a vibrant, sometimes chaotic 1995 Manila. The film centers on these five kids, each with their quirks and super abilities, who find themselves thrust into an intergalactic conflict. The pacing is a bit uneven, but it adds to that kind of off-the-wall charm. The performances, while not always polished, convey a genuine sense of adventure and urgency. Practical effects are charmingly dated – you can really see the effort in the make-up and costume design. And then there's Dr. Axis, the alien antagonist. She's quite the memorable character, with a design that straddles the line between campy and menacing. It’s a wild ride for sure, capturing that unique era of Filipino cinema.
