Tim Burton's 'Batman Returns' has this dark, twisted fairy tale vibe that really sets it apart from the usual superhero fare. The atmosphere is almost gothic, with the eerie design of Gotham City feeling like a character in itself. The practical effects still hold up, especially Penguin's look—it's grotesque yet oddly compelling. Danny DeVito’s portrayal is both bizarre and captivating, while Michelle Pfeiffer steals scenes as Catwoman, bringing a depth to the character that’s rare in comic adaptations. The pacing's a bit uneven, but it adds to that surreal feeling. The whole film is a curious blend of action and fantasy, wrapped in Burton's trademark style. It's a unique entry in the Batman saga, for sure.
Released by Warner Bros. in 1992Runtime: 126 minutes, rated PG-13Score by Danny Elfman, adding to the eerie toneFilmed on location and at Pinewood Studios, UK
