Before Christmas (2016) is this charming little TV movie that sort of sneaks up on you. It's set against the backdrop of the holiday season, with an orphan meeting this elderly couple who are without children. The pacing has a nice ebb and flow, balancing moments of genuine warmth with those comedic beats that feel very much in line with Branislav Nušić's style. The performances, especially by the older couple, really ground the film—they have this lovely chemistry that brings out the story's heart. It's melodramatic, sure, but in a way that feels rooted in reality. The practical effects are minimal, but they don't detract from the story's emotional impact, making it feel all the more authentic.
Good exploration of family dynamics.Interesting take on holiday themes.A unique blend of comedy and drama.
