Bella (2020) is this intriguing blend of drama and documentary, set against the backdrop of a Berlin that's on the brink of monumental change. You feel the tension of the era, the end of the Cold War looming large. The film’s pacing is reflective, almost dreamlike at times, which really enhances that sense of nostalgia and urgency. The performances are raw, particularly Anthi’s emotional journey, grappling with shifting identities and relationships. There’s this distinct atmosphere that permeates every scene, a kind of fever dream quality that pulls you in and makes you question what’s real. It's definitely not your typical narrative structure, which might throw some off, but to me, that's what makes it stand out.
