Beowulf (2007) by Robert Zemeckis is an intriguing take on the ancient epic. The animation combines motion capture with a gritty atmosphere that really captures the brutal world of the 6th century. You feel the weight of Beowulf's armor as he faces off against Grendel, who is rendered with a raw, visceral presence. The pacing has its moments, with a mix of action and quieter character moments that build tension. Themes of heroism, pride, and the darker sides of human nature come through in a way that feels both timeless and relevant. The performances, especially by Ray Winstone, add depth, even if the animation style doesn't always resonate with everyone. It's distinctive, for sure, and worth a look if you're into the more experimental side of storytelling.
