Beti (1969) is an interesting drama directed by Harmesh Malhotra. There's a nice blend of emotional depth and family dynamics, especially with Sudha's struggles after losing her mom. The pacing is a bit uneven at times, which adds to the realism of her life falling apart. The performances, particularly by the lead, make the struggles feel palpable. You can sense the tension with the stepmother Kamla, portrayed as quite the self-serving character. It's distinct in how it handles the traditional family setup while juxtaposing Sudha's aspirations against societal expectations. The film captures that struggle well, even if it doesn’t break new ground. The music score has its moments too, reflecting the emotional beats nicely.
