So, 'Between Midnight and Dawn' is this interesting little crime film from 1950 directed by Gordon Douglas. It's got that gritty night-time vibe that makes you feel the weight of the city after dark. The pacing is pretty tight, as we follow war buddies Rocky and Dan, who are on prowler duty. Dan's really the cynic of the duo, seeing the worst in everyone, while Rocky is a bit more lenient, which creates a nice contrast. Their fascination with Kate, the radio voice, adds an intriguing layer, especially when she's not the damsel in distress but rather someone who's wary of the dangers that come with their job. The performances are solid, capturing that post-war disillusionment, and the atmosphere really pulls you in.
Great representation of post-war societal issues.Strong character dynamics between the leads.Notable use of nighttime urban settings.
