Bite (2018) plays with that claustrophobic fear of the unexpected lurking in your own home, and it nails it. The premise is simple yet effective: a spider hitching a ride in a bunch of bananas, leading to some genuinely tense moments. The practical effects are particularly striking, giving the spider a nightmarish quality that feels visceral. Julia, as the lead, does a great job of portraying the escalating terror as she finds herself trapped in her own bathroom, a setting that becomes increasingly suffocating. The pacing is tight, with an almost relentless buildup of dread, making every little moment count. It’s one of those films that leans heavily into its horror roots without trying to overcomplicate things, which is refreshing in today's landscape.
