Black Neon is one of those gritty, no-holds-barred action flicks that dives deep into the underbelly of urban life. You’ve got Tom Maranta, a bouncer who’s thrown in the towel on the rough and tumble world he knows, and then bam! His old rival, Pharoah, comes back into the picture, fresh out of prison and out for blood. The film's pace is relentless, full of street fights and a sense of palpable tension. The practical effects, while not pristine, add to that raw atmosphere, making every punch and stab feel all too real. Performances are often intense, even if they veer into melodrama. It’s a niche piece that captures a certain time in the early '90s action style, not quite polished but definitely memorable in its own way.
