Blind Fury is one of those films that makes you appreciate the oddities of 80s action cinema. Directed by Phillip Noyce, it pairs a blind hero with some surprisingly solid sword-fighting choreography. Rutger Hauer, as the lead, gives a nuanced performance that balances vulnerability and lethal skill. The pacing keeps you engaged, with moments of quiet tension juxtaposed against the martial arts sequences. It's got a gritty atmosphere, hinting at the struggles of Vietnam veterans without getting too preachy. The practical effects, especially in fight scenes, have a rawness that CGI just can't replicate. You can’t help but admire how it gives a unique spin on the buddy rescue trope, with a blind protagonist at its center.
