So, 'Blood in the Dark' is one of those indie horrors that thrives on atmosphere more than jump scares. It sets up this eerie sense of dread in Chestnut Grove, where the water's edge seems to consume more than fish. The pacing is interesting; it starts off slow with the girls just hanging out, but that sense of normalcy gets undercut as the night goes on. You really feel the tension building. The practical effects are decently done, adding to that grim realism rather than leaning on CGI. The performances, especially from the trio of girls, are pretty raw and believable. It has this gritty edge that sticks with you, making the impending chaos all the more unsettling.
Indie horror with a strong atmospheric focus.Notable for practical effects over CGI.Character-driven tension builds throughout.
